Professor Adrien Zakar joins IHPST and NMC

March 31, 2021 by IHPST

The IHPST joins with our wonderful colleagues in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations (NMC) to announce the joint appointment of Dr. Adrien Zakar as Assistant Professor of Late Ottoman History and History of Science and Technology. Dr. Zakar presently holds a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Stanford Humanities Center and is a lecturer in the Department of History at Stanford University. Dr. Zakar completed his doctoral studies in Middle Eastern History at Columbia University in 2018. He is a historian of the Late Ottoman Empire and the modern Middle East with a research focus in political, social, and cultural histories, science and technology studies, war studies, and spatial history. We are delighted by his cross-appointment, and look forward to Adrien joining the IHPST and NMC communities, contributing to NMC’s growing course offerings in Turkish Studies and the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies program, and to the IHPST’s offerings in global histories of cartography, empire, science, and technology.

Dr. Zakar took up his new appointment July 1, 2021.
